Yes, you should call before going and there is good reason why it is not always open. If you are into rocks and get a chance to browse the store I think you'll be pleased.
We took a chance and went there without calling first. When we got there, we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who opened the shop for us. This is a shop for those who enjoy rocks. This is more than a shop which also sells rocks but a shop where the owners are serious about rocks.
Been there twice...no one around...and the second time we were expected???? Would love to look????
